Covering Clean Tech

Filed under: Environment, Job Searching — Tags: cleantech forum, san francisco — admin @ 12:57 pm

So I’m experimenting with no photo in this post for two reasons. A – I sometimes want to post but don’t want to show a mediocre photo just to blog more frequently. B – I am covering the Cleantech Forum in San Francisco this week, and didn’t want to carry heavy camera equipment when I am focusing on writing for Matter Network (check it out!) I suppose I should get a good point and shoot for this sort of event to save on weight and space. Anyone know of a good one that works well on manual? It’s been a great experience so far, except for my having to wear heels, but everyone’s so friendly that you can literally walk up to anyone and say “Hi, I’m Emily” and shake their hand. I wish we could do this more in the real world, say, walking down the street, or sitting in a coffee shop without getting crazy looks or conversely, attracting the crazies. You end up meeting a lot of interesting people and hearing their stories and opinions. I highly recommend these types of conferences for anyone interested in clean tech – it provides everything from a basic knowledge to detailed, advanced knowledge over a broad spectrum of subjects.

On a different note, I’m going to see Chuck Fryberger’s new climbing movie, PURE, tomorrow night in Santa Rosa that features my friend, amazing climber, and all around nice and humble guy, Kevin Jorgeson. Updates will follow.

Leave No Stone Unturned

Tahoe RocksA friend of mine believes my blog should be known as “the perils and pitfalls of being an educated, lovely, smart woman.” When looking for jobs, how much is enough? At what point in the hundreds of revisions is your resume perfect? How many jobs must you apply for? Do you apply all over the country or one location? Do you pray to God or CEOs? I’ve tried various techniques, from applying to jobs high and low, for which I’m overqualified and underqualified and everything in between. I’ve used Indeed, Craigslist, USAJobs, Dice, Monster, etc. I’ve seen a psychic. I’ve networked as much as possible, using LinkedIn, sending my resume to friends, talking to strangers on the ski lift. I’m thinking a tattoo might work well. Right on my forehead. “Will Work For Work.” Or something like that.

Bonnie’s Snow Workout

Filed under: Pet Portraits — Tags: snow, snowboarding, sugarbowl ski resort — admin @ 9:19 pm

Bon Plays at Sugar BowlAfter patiently waiting in the car while I went snowboarding for two hours, I guess she had to take her energy out somehow. Thinking I’d get her nice and tired, I threw the toy over the snow bank and down the hill, and was immediately overcome by guilt when we both realized the snow was too deep for her and she quickly got stuck and looked pleadingly at me with that scared look in her eye. So I trudged down, pulled her out of the hole, and pushed her back up the hill as I crawled on my hands and knees, every now and then plunging past my knees and filling my boots with snow. If you’re looking for an adventurous workout for you and your dog, this one combines cardio and lunges with fear, guilt and wet socks. Perfect, right?
