Trunks

TrunksIn one of my favorite movies, “Death at a Funeral,” the grandfather sits on the roof yelling “It’s so f***ing green!” My thoughts exactly. I am back in Virginia/DC now – the land of the green, the land of the suits and ties, and the land of the seemingly endless sprawl and warm, humid weather. However, I can do this after spending a couple weeks in Telluride in which I got reinspired for life and art and photography and creativity. And let’s face it – we all need jobs. At least those of us who aren’t trustafarians. And until those trustafarians start buying my photos, I’ll continue the day job. I’m working on a new project, which I’ll discuss in more detail some other time, but this photo (click on it to see it much larger) is the first of many that focus on the intersection of nature and humans. It is not just an excuse to have a semi-nude body in a black and white photo. Although I do like that genre of photos. Enjoy.

Sunshine Mountain

Sunshine MountainSunshine Mountain often gets ignored because of its iconic neighbor, Wilson Peak. But yesterday, Sunshine Mountain was the only one visible, so it got to shine in its full, misty glory on a gray snowy day that gives photos a gorgeous black and white quality even when shot in color. This mesa is one of my favorites in southwestern Colorado, with views of Sunshine, Wilson, Dallas and Emma. Those who live here are lucky, lucky souls who I hope sit by their massive windows or stand on their rich, rustic decks and porches with a cup of hot coffee every morning, staring into the mountains and wallowing in the peace that emanates from the peaks, looking for elk and coyotes. Because that’s what I would do.

On the Road, Again

Ruby MountainsSince the economy’s so freaking bad on the West Coast, I’ve decided to head east, albeit very slowly. As I drove across Nevada, which is a gorgeous and thankfully overlooked state, I was lucky enough to catch the Ruby Mountain Range at sunset, which captures the light and pinks so well that I unconsciously pulled to the side of the highway to catch it before it slipped away. Turns out as soon as I took a few photos and got back in my car, the light was gone, so I felt really lucky. Sometimes timing is everything. Now I’m in Telluride, Colo. visiting friends and playing outside. The ability to snowboard and boulder in the same day definitely makes for a nice transition from winter to spring, and a great place to stop over.
